10th May 2008

I am planning to return to Alaska around the 24th May. I will spend a week in Nome organising a safety boat and permits which will allow me to drive down the coast to Nome. Dan Evans is flying out at the beginning of June and we will then fly to Providenya and get transport upto Uelen. Then we will wait for the weather!

More pictures of the Land Rover on tracks and us taking the tracks off - not an easy task in the middle of Siberia!

20th April 2008

Well what a week. I've been suffering from jetlag, British weather and hard decision making. And I apologise for lack of updates - 2000 pictures is a lot to look through - I've realised exactly how many there are of a Land Rover in the snow.

The last part of the journey to Uelen was definately the hardest and these photos show us being dragged over snow and ice then into a frozen river. Pictures

I have started the process of obtaining an U.S visa and my interview is on the 16th May. The visa will then take a couple of weeks to come through and so Dan and I will be back to Siberia at the beginning of June.

Nicky and I have been spending quality time together and when she said she was going running for the day on Saturday I planned to have a nice meal ready for her and to have done all the jobs when she returned. I just "called" in at Simon Dedman's at 5pm but was there 3 hours and had a couple of glasses of wine in that time. Nicky had returned home and put tea on when I got home. I wasn't feeling very well and so went to bed. Nicky went outside at 9.30pm and noticed the Land Rover wasn't there. Calling upstairs she asked if I had parked it in its usual place. I replied "yes" and she replied "Well its been stolen then".

Getting no response from me Nicky phones the police and reports the theft of the Land Rover.

At 3am I wake up (after apparently snoring and taking up all the bed) and go downstairs and see the police details about the Land Rover being stolen. Returning to bed I ask Nicky "Has the Land Rover been stolen from Simon Dedman's?" she replies "What do you mean Simon Dedmans, didn't you drive it home last night". "No" I say, "Simon gave me a lift home". And it all becomes clear !

15th April 2008

I arrived back at 10.10am having had to run on two occasions in order not to miss connecting flight. As expected my luggage was not as adept as finding its way and is apparently in Honalulu. So no pictures until it arrives.

Only a short update as I have been up for what seems like days and want my bath, wine, curry and bed !
